STAR Jalsha Creates a New Record

The youngest & the Numero Uno Bengali GEC channel crosses 500 GRP Mark


Kolkata, 6th August, 2009:   STAR Jalsha, the youngest and the numero uno Bengali General Entertainment Channel has touched 505 GRPs which is an all time high figure across all regional & national GECs. In a short span of seven months from its incepton, STAR Jalsha wrested the supremacy from its competitors and established itself as the leading channel in the Bengali GEC segment. As per the latest TAM ratings for the week ended on August 1, 2009, STAR Jalsha has garnered 505 GRPs, a rise by 162 GRPs over the previous week. Its closest competitors Zee Bangla and ETV Bangla stands at 315 GRPs and 215 GRPs respectively for this week.

This week, STAR Jalsha has seen a 47% growth over the last week average of the channel. The incremental growth in STAR Jalsha comes from growth in Prime Time, Movies and the Sunday Mega Event “STAR Jalsha Entertainment Award”.

9 out of top 10 and 46 out of top 100 programs in the West Bengal market are from Star Jalsha. 4 out of 5 prime fictions in STAR Jalsha hold the top position in their respective slots. ‘Bou Kotha Kou’ is the no 1 fiction show in Bengali GEC with 8.4 average TVR this week, and a top rated show ever since its launch. The newly launched serial ‘Ogo Bodhu Shundori’ has also made an impressive debut with a 4.7 average TVR. All the prime time shows – Bandhan, Durga, Ekhane Akash Neel along with the reality show Swayamwar has witnessed growth in viewership in this week.

Star Jalsha's current programming line-up has five daily serials - Bou Katha Kou, Ekhane Akash Neel, Bandhan, Durga, Ogo Bodhu Shundori & Ichchedana - aired from Monday to Friday at 7.00 pm, 7.30 pm, 8.00 pm, 8.30 pm, 9.00 pm & 1:30 pm respectively. Star Studio - the television magazine show is aired every Saturday at 7.30 pm, the reality show Swayamwar is aired every Monday and Tuesday at 9.30 pm, and the popular musical reality show, Royal Bengal Superstar is aired every Wednesday and Thursday at 9.30 pm. Starting this month will see many interesting shows on STAR Jalsha and viewers are guaranteed to have a more exciting and entertaining fare on television.
